Edward T. J. Chen, Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, and Founder With over 30 years of entrepreneurial experience in the high-tech industry, Mr. Chen is also the founder and CEO of AMREL, a leader in cutting edge technology providing supply chain solutions for the Renewable Energy, Public Safety, Military, and Homeland Security Markets. Mr. Chen previously held a position with Motorola as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for nine years. He left Motorola in 1980 and co-founded MOTECH Industries Inc. (a silicon solar cell manufacturer), CReTE Systems, and GALAXY FAR EAST Corporation. All three companies are publicly listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. As a successful entrepreneur, Mr. Chen's resources and ability to grow startup companies into industry leaders are well-established.
Mr. Chen received his BSc in Electrical Engineering from the National Taipei Institute of Technology.
Woolas Hsieh, President and Founder Mr. Hsieh brings over 20 years of experience in investment banking and commercial banks to the company, including extensive knowledge of corporate governance, expertise in structuring financial products, and experience with equity financing. He managed approximately a hundred people in these positions and contributed to the launch of Taiwan's first exchange listed equity derivative in his time as Executive Vice President in Structured Derivative Products. He previously held positions as an Equity Trader at Lehman Brothers, Banking Center Manager/Vice President at Bank of America, and is a Founding Partner of INNOVENTURE GROUP INC, a private equity venture capital investment firm. Mr. Hsieh is currently on the Board of Directors for the Organic Electronics Association (OE-A).
Mr. Hsieh graduated from National Taiwan University with a BL in Law and received an MBA in Finance from the University of Cincinnati.
Jennifer Yu, Executive Vice President and Founder Ms. Yu is tasked with facilitating the company's efforts to develop strategic partners and corporate finance. Prior to joining Solarmer, she spent 27 years with Bank of America, 18 of which was in management. Under her management the deposit of her banking center grew from 250 million to 600 million in six years. She received Bank of America's Award of Excellence an astonishing 15 consecutive years. Ms. Yu is also the Managing Partner of the MP Amber Fund.
Ms. Yu is a graduate of Consumer Banking School at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Yue Wu, Vice President of Technology Development Dr. Yue Wu joined Solarmer Energy in 2008 as the Device Engineering team leader and now serves as the Vice President of Technology Development. He received his PhD in Polymer Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where his research focused on magnetic properties of organic semiconductor devices such as organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic photovoltaic (OPVs). In 2007, after graduation, he joined Prof. Yang Yang's group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UCLA, as a postdoctoral researcher. His research work at UCLA focused on organic tandem solar cells.
Dr. Vishal Shrotriya, Vice President of Strategic Business Development
Dr. Shrotriya is leading the company's efforts in business development and building strategic partnerships for Solarmer. Dr. Shrotriya received his MS and PhD in Materials Science from University of California, Los Angeles, and BS from IIT Bombay, India. Dr. Shrotriya also has a certificate in Management of Technology from California Institute of Technology. He has been active in the field of organic and printed electronics for the last 10 years. His research focus has been on organic materials and devices for electronic and optoelectronic applications including LEDs, solar cells, and transistors. He has co-authored more than 30 journal papers and patents related to polymer solar cells and has presented at several international conferences.
